June Field Update: Spanish Carob Varieties Thriving in Cyprus

It’s been nearly four months since our carob seedlings arrived in Cyprus after a long journey from Valencia — and we’re happy to report that they’re settling in beautifully.
Planted at our Arediou site, the three selected varieties — Duraio, SDC, and H13P — have adapted well to the local conditions, soaking up Cyprus’s sun-filled days and enjoying the cooling evening breezes drifting down from the Troodos Mountains.
Survival Rates (from a total of 500 trees):
• H13P: 8 losses out of 300 → 97.3% survival
• SDC: 0 losses out of 100 → 100% survival
• Duraio: 1 loss out of 100 → 99% survival
Overall survival rate: 98.2%
These early results are incredibly promising. They reinforce our belief in the resilience and potential of these varieties to thrive in Cyprus’s climate.
